2019 Garden State Championships

Lilly, Alexandra, Connor, and Kaiden share their competition memories with class

Congratulations to the Min’s Karate Competition Team and their success at the 43 Annual Garden State Championship.  Hundreds of competitors gathered from all across the Tri-State area early Saturday morning at Riverwinds Community Center in West Deptford, NJ.  Dozens of schools representing martial arts including Tang Soo Do, Taekwondo, and Karate gathered for the annual event hosted by Grandmaster Ki Yun Yi.  With the large turnout, competition was very fierce with division groups routinely pushing 20 people.

The Min’s Karate Competition Team represented by Coleman Miller, Hyon Kim, Liam Mulholland, Gabriel Smitz,  Ricardo Barrios, Zachary Shifflett, Evan Belden, Kaiden Lay, Alexandra Martin, Lilly Straub , Carter Shifflett, Connor Shifflett, Logan Belden, and Connor Martin brought home 16 trophies, including 5 division championships.

Liam performs Bassai Dae in the Junior Grand Championships after winning his division in the 7-8 year old Black Belt Forms competition. He would finish the day also placing 1st in the breaking, 1st in the sparring, & 2nd in weapons competition.

Lilly scores a roundhouse kick to the head to go on to place 1st in the 8-9 year old Intermediate Girls Sparring competition. She would finish the day also placing 2nd in the weapons, & 3rd in the forms competition.

Alexandra scores a roundhouse kick to the body to go on to win 2nd place in the 8-9 year old Intermediate Girls Sparring competition. She would finish the day also placing 1st in the breaking, & 3rd in the weapons competition.

Connor flying side kicks over 2 people on his way to finish 3rd in the 10-11 year old Beginners Breaking competition. He finished the day with also a 2nd in the sparring & 3rd in the forms competition.
