The Sparring Seminar is designed for students who are ready to take their sparring to the next level. Through a three-part training experience, students will develop a deeper understanding of sparring, sharpening their technical skills, and learn how to apply those skills under pressure.
Part I: Understanding the Why
We begin in the classroom, breaking down the concepts and anatomy of sparring. Students will explore the principles behind effective movement, distance, angles, timing, positioning, and technique. This foundation helps students understand the why we train for sparring the way we do.
Part II: Developing the How
Next, students will put those concepts into practice through thoughtfully crafted drills designed to improve footwork, timing, speed, and reaction. This is where students develop the how behind the concepts introduced in Part I.
Part III: Putting it All Together
Finally, students will take what they've learned and apply it through live sparring with their fellow classmates. This is where the concepts and drills come together, allowing students to test their skills, adapt in real time, and gain valuable experience under pressure.
In every class, we strive to provide our students with the best learning experience possible. However, with a one-hour window, we are naturally limited in how deeply we can explore each lesson. Most lessons need to be condensed to focus on the core concepts, essential techniques, and practical application.
This 4-hour seminar gives us the opportunity to slow down and go deeper.
Rather than simply introducing concepts, we'll take the time to break them down, explore the why behind the techniques, and develop your sparring awareness. You'll work through more in-depth drills, get significantly more repetitions to reinforce proper habits, and have the opportunity to test those skills through live sparring under pressure.
Think of regular class as building the foundation. This seminar is an opportunity to build upon that foundation with greater depth, repetition, and application.
It's not a replacement for your regular training. It's an opportunity to take the training you already receive and go deeper.
To get the most out of our seminar and to ensure a safe and productive training environment, participants should come prepared in the following ways:
A Good Attitude
Come ready to learn, work hard, hustle, and sweat! This is a four-hour intensive seminar, so bring your energy, focus, and willing to challenge yourself.
A Foundation in the Basics
Participants should be comfortable performing the basic kicking techniques, blocks, and footwork without additional instructor support. The seminar will build upon these fundamentals rather than teach them from the beginning.
Complete Sparring Gear - MANDATORY
All participants must bring their own sparring equipment
Please inspect your gear before the seminar. Make sure everything fits properly, is in good working condition, and is clean. With close contact training, clean equipment is important, not only for your own comfort and safety, but out of consideration for your training partners. Please make sure your gear is free of unpleasant odors.
Plenty of Hydration
We will have a short intermission in the middle and breaks during the seminar so please bring plenty of water or other hydrating drinks.
